legacy is a new and innovative project that aims at addressing the health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals. LGBT individuals are a marginalized community in a heterosexually-dominant society. LGBT people face a multi-layered, complex and intertwined series of issues that hinder the ability to lead healthy lifestyles. At legacy, we begin with the individual. Most of the time, all that is needed is a caring ear that will listen free of judgment and stigma.
As we establish meeting spaces, legacy will focus on one-on-one counseling meetings in safe public spaces at the request of the individual. We will also serve as a referral network to the services the individual needs.
At legacy, we believe that healing from within is the key to success. Mental health is our approach to bring closure to issues that lead to self-destructive life choices. One-by-one, the multi-layered myriad of issues gets untangled and life becomes easier to manage.
The process of healing also requires the support of LGBT families and friends. legacy will help build the necessary connections for LGBT individuals to re-build the bridges and engage in healthy dialogues and move forward in life in a positive direction. In addition, legacy will open the doors the friends and allies of LGBT individuals. We recognize that it is important to strengthen the bonds of friendship.
